Our coach, Chelsea gave a seminar to Adopt & amp; amp; Business last week and outlined some basic training tips for bringing a new dog into your home. If you do not do in person, do not be afraid, they we recap here to get you started:
, when a new dog at home, is the most important thing to remember is to go at a speed of the dog.
Every dog needs time to adapt to a new environment, and we can make it easier for him, giving him a safe space all of its own. This space can be a crate, a dog bed, or a particular area. Make this area a zone that belongs only for your dog. Guests not to approach the dog in the room, and the family leaves him alone time there. Start teach your dog his new (and not so new) name.
Have some yummy treats, say his name and then hand him a treat. This is a great tie game with your dog play, which also helps training!
Lighten. On your dog by sticking to a plan
The breakfast and dinner at the same times every day, is about the same length, and maybe even daycare once or twice a week. Make sure this schedule for you and your dog for the long term. You do not want to have to adjust your dog to a new home and planning to change it as soon as he falls into the rhythm.
Remember, every dog has a unique history and personality. Pace of your dog is the right move. The slower you move with your new dog, the faster and more confident your dog will be able to adapt.
